This luxury German Stationer and producer of fine writing instruments was founded in 1908 Hamburg by stationer Claus-Johannes Voss, banker Alfred Nehemies and engineer August Eberstein. They decided to name the company The Simplo-Filler Pen Company and it began by producing up-market pens. Their first model was called Rouge et Noir (meaning red and black in Frence), and subsequently most of their pens have French names, with the exception of the Meisterstuck, meaning masterpiece in German.

In 1910, they released a fountain pen from which the company would take its name – The Montblanc. In 1934, the company changed its name to Montblanc-Simplo GmbH and began production of the piston filler.

Montblanc was acquired by British Men’s Luxury house Alfred Dunhill or simply Dunhill in 1977.Consequently, all low priced pen ranges were dropped from the product line, and the brand name of Montblanc was attached to a whole new range of goods.

Today, the Montblanc Company is a part of the Richemont Group, owned by the South African Rupert family. Continuing from Dunhill’s line extensions, Montblac sells Watches, Eyewear, Leather goods, Jewellery and fragrances, apart from luxury writing instruments.

Montblanc is identified by its logo which is called the ‘etoile’ or the star. There have been many interpretations of the significance of the logo.

While it may hold reference to the edelweiss flower that grows aplenty in the Alpine regions, the company itself assigns its meaning to a snowflake, thereby expressing the individuality of every Montblanc, likening it to being unique like a snowflake.

Montblanc has been known for generations as a maker of sophisticated, highquality writing instruments. The company is a purveyor of exclusive products which reflect the exacting demands made today for quality design, tradition and master craftsmanship.
